Volume CCXIX: The Magical Monday Motive a Sean Edition; The Prince of Peppers is Thing King Big

So this was started sometime in February this year from the House von Dehn Heirlook, ‘Prince of Purple Pendant Pepper’ and I just ate one raw off the plant because I Wished to remind My Self how hot it is and I didn’t notice any heat at all which is not how I remembered them (I thought around the same as a jalepeno) but I eat a lot of hot peppers now so My tolerance might be a factor OR, it could just be that they are not ripe yet and don’t get hot until they are.  They start out purple right after the flower, grow to full size, then they Will slowly lose the purple as they ripen, turning white at first, then yellow, green, then orange through to deep red.  I tried them when they were fully ripened and harvested the seeds, this is a second generation seed, meaning that it’s seed came from the first generation.  I have no Idea how I got a purple pepper, it may an expressed gene from a hybrid seed from a grocery store or something, it could just be My own peppers crossing but I have kept a Record of which generation each seed is, so the seeds harvested from this Will be labeled generation 3.  Once it has successfully produced the same characteristics eight times’generation, it is considered a True ‘Heirloom’ because the genetics are presumed to be stable.  Sometimes one Will get a pepper like this by chance but then the seeds don’t produce the same thing the second time around because different, dormant genes from the original hybrid express instead.  So, just to have even a second generation producing peppers exactly like those I harvested originally is a very Good Sign. 😉  Next year I’ll let You know how generate-Sean three is going.
