Yes, Ladies and Gentile Men, pictured above is My very own Monstera ‘White Magic’ hybrid or ‘Sport’. What is a Monstera ‘Sport’?
A Monstera sport is a sudden, natural mutation on a single part of the plant. It creates unique changes in leaf color, such as unexpected white or mint variegation, or shifts in leaf shape. These mutations happen randomly and are not stable. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Understanding Monstera Sports
- Random Mutation: A single branch or stem suddenly grows distinct patterns or colors that differ from the rest of the parent plant. [1, 2]
- Unpredictability: Sport variegation is often unstable. A new leaf might show brilliant colors, while the next leaf could turn completely green (revert). [1, 2]
- Propagation Challenge: Because the mutation is unstable, cutting and propagating a sport does not always guarantee the new plant will keep the unique pattern. [1, 2]
- Collector Value: Rare or striking sports (like certain mint or unique multi-colored variants) are heavily sought after by hobbyists who hunt for them in regular plant shops. [1, 2]
So yeah. I would be the hobbyist that heavily sought after a ‘striking sport’ hunting for one in regular plant shops – this one was found in Loblaws and I was going to walk by (because I already have 8 Monstera Deliciosa from one I received a couple of years ago on My name day) until I noticed what looked like a tiny splash of white on one of the leaves. You can see it just behind the featured leaf of today’s photo. As stated in the descript-Sean, they are unstable so buying it for one tiny fleck of colour on one young leaf was a gamble. But I got it for $8.00, taxes in (which is dirt cheap), sold as a regular Monstera Deliciosa and one of the smallest in a four inch pot with three others (regular Monsteras or is it ‘Monsteri’?). Four inch pot in italics because these plants get HUGE!!!
The above specimen is only two years old now!!! I recently beheaded it and replanted the Crown in a new, twelve inch pot so that the leaves can continue to increase in size (they Will stop if they run out of room for the roots). I also cut the bottom half into stem cuttings and turned them into plants, too. Between the new purchase where I scored the Monstera ‘White Magic’ and the Monsteri I already had (We’re going to roll with it ’cause it sounds cool), I have fifteen Monteri!!! The above plant is just about to push out a new leaf right now, so We’ll see if the transplant is having the desired effect very soon.
Anyway, point is, this is My unique hybrid, One Will not be able to acquire it anywhere else and the only Way to get more of it is to propagate from the Mother Monstera White Magic – which means this plant went from $8.00 to roughly over $5,000.00 in potential Value. Crown cuttings from an established plant can command thousands of dollars each!
The reason I’ve photographed the leaf above is because although it is unstable, if the leaves progress in variegation, then it generally means the plant Will continue to do so. Each leaf so far has been more wildly variegated than the one before (with none at all on the first leaf). Also, unlike ‘Thai Constellation’ which is a stable hybrid, the variegation does not only affect the leaves, the petioles (stems) are striped or contain splashes of white and mint as well. That is relevant because it also means that when I cut the plant to propagate the stem cuttings, the variegation Will (like) contine (because it’s in the stem cutting, too). It’s still not guaranteed, but the chances are much better.

It’s incredible, really! I Will have to an expose sometime on all the ‘decisions’ I’ve received from the LSO regarding My complaints of criminal conduct by their ‘licensed’ professionals. The LSO is legitimately a criminal racketeering operate-Sean and not a legitimage licensing authority for professionals unless One is looking to become a professional fraudster. A few except-Sean’s do apply, I think Rocco Gelati may be an Honourable legal professional, but I’m not sure I know of any others.
