Yes, My very young Bird of Paradise, or Strelitzia Reginae. This is another plant that grows to be absolutely massive!
What I Love about Strelitzia Reginae or White Bird of Paradise
I do Love plants that grow to be massive because they really help to Give a room that tropical, jungle vibe with a rich tapestry of various leaf forms. Although today’s feature photo is nothing spectacular to look at today, that is what I Love about plants. Some People don’t like to start with small plants, they Wish to have the full blown version right away because they are more interested in the look than the experience or just Wish for that immediate gratification of having a houseplant already at its full potential.
I Love to watch the process which is why I waited for the first new leaf to be clearly visible before sharing My first photo with You. This plant was a bit of a steal for nine dollars, especially when sitting directly beside its ten inch counterpart – the exact same plant a few months older selling for $40.00 on sale from $60.00. Full grown specimens were around the other side for as much as $120.00! The Truth is, if I hadn’t seen the full grown version on My Way in, I wouldn’t have known they get so big! The ones they had on display (Home Depot) were taller than Me (or about the same).
Time is money, right? So I guess I’m trading time for money. I know that My nine dollar plant Will be worth around a hundred when it’s full grown, potentially more if I can get it to flower (which takes a minimum of four years and the correct room conditions). Every new leaf that unfurls exceeds the leaf size and petiole length of the leaf before it and it is a lot of fun for Me to watch a small plant become a giant.
Although Monstera are still My number one favourite plant, this specimen is already among My favourites for its potential alone. I guess My most favourite plant (right now, it changes) is My Monstera White Magic which is also pushing out a new leaf which is very exciting because it Truly feels like it earned its name – I never know what I Will get, how variegated the leaf or petiole may be, every new leaf is a Magical surprise!
