The Chinese government is so fearful of their people that they cannot tolerate the slightest possibility of allowing them to know any other form of government, terrified it would topple the Chinese regime. Does the Chinese government really believe it can keep its people contained indefinitely? China is also one of the power players on the world stage, recently parading its military nuclear prowess down Tiananmen Square days after they had once again denied Iran the right to produce the very same weapons.
China may have money and military might, but what kind of morality is its leader led? What does the Chinese government offer the world in terms of peace and freedom? What kind of a contribution can China make toward a progressive and peaceful international community if this is how they seek to oppress their own people? The Chinese government is terrified because the people are so infinitely powerful. If the Chinese people collectively decide they no longer want to be contained by communist rule, Communist China is finished.
Desperate measures like detaining authors or imprisoning them for speaking out on freedom is a clear indication not of the strength of the stranglehold the Communist Chinese government has over its people, but of how volatile and fragile the stranglehold is. Imagine what would happen if all of China suddenly decided it didn’t like its government. Now You know why the Communist Party is so terrified.
